How should I set up bleeds?

(CPA000019)

If you are creating an illustration that will bleed off the page in the layout software, build the bleed into the graphic file. This may require creating slightly oversized or "extended" artwork. Don't increase your page size.

The exception to this rule is print-ready PDFs. Bleeds should be within the page, so you will need to increase the page size. In these cases, provide crop marks to define the true page dimensions.

If you are creating tint, type, or rule elements in your page layout software, simply extend the element 5 mm off the page. When placing your graphics into your page layout software, simply position the graphic 5 mm off of the page.
